During the Weekend Tour you'll have the chance to visit these beautiful Macedonian places:
The monastery is located on a side-road from Ohrid to Mavrovo. Going on along the Radika river, known for its beautiful nature and delicious spring trout, the altitude rapidly increases, witnessing the highest mountains in Macedonia , you suddenly encounter the monastery of St. Jovan Bigorski.
It is set in the remarkable scale cliffs of the canyon valley of the river Radika, embraced by vigorous woods planted on the northwest slopes of the mountain Bistra. This amazingly magic landscape combines the monastery mysticism and the human idealism in one world that overcomes the borders of the rational knowledge. The monastery ambient is redeemed with the old mansions with the spacious wooden balconies and the dining room furnished with authentic furniture from the time of its construction, the late 17th and early 19th century. The special guest mansions offer possibility to each visitor, under certain conditions, to stay longer and to enjoy the marvelous sunrise of this heavenly site.
It also contains one of the most inspiring woodcarving in the world, done by the great Macedonian masters of the 19th century.
Bistra Mountain is one of the Macedonian national parks, which embraces the beautiful Mavrovo Lake. In the period from November till April, 70 cm of snow covers the Mountain and offers the pleasure of all winter sports. During summer months, from May to September, Mavrovo offers rowing, fishing and hunting, mounting biking…chances to experience a real paradise in the summer day, and frosty adventures during winter!
It's a true mountain and lake pearl in Western Macedonia. The Mavrovo Lake combined with the mountain Bistra gives a unique blend experience. This is a national park that simply cannot be left out of the traveling route!
The Ohrid saga is a millennium long saga. Since Ohrid is a city in the
Republic of Macedonia with continuity and around two and a half millenniums
old marks of exsistance. Within the very heart of the present city of Ohrid,
the antique city of Lichnid lies, significant and rich, as is its successor.
The metamorphoses of the antique Lichnid into medieval Ohrid lasted for several
centuries (VI-IX), thus being created one of the most significant medieval cities
on the Balkan. Through the pages of the Ohrid saga we will find the memories
of the birth of the Slavic literacy and culture in the works of St. Clement
and St. Naum, students of Thessaloniki brothers Ss. Cyril and Methodius. St.
Clement is worshiped as a patron of the city, and his three-decade work in the
city (886-916) initiated the foundation of the Clement Slavic University.
The Ohrid saga cherries the memories of the Samuel Empire, too, as its capitol at the beginning of the XI century. It nourishes the testimonies of the Ohrid Archibishopry - a significant church organization, which pedestal was shared by influential philosophers, writers and theologians. Its worthy successor is the present Macedonian Orthodox Church. The Ohrid saga was composed by the stormy pages of the past, and the testimonies for some of them have reached the present days; the Monastery of St. Clement - St. Pantelejmon, the Monastery of St. Naum, the cathedral church of St. Sophia, the church of St. Clement, the church of St. John the Baptist, as many other pieces of art: frescoes, icons, manuscripts, all of them woven in the City of UNESCO - Ohrid.
