THE TOWN OF STYRA

Styra is a traditional town, built amphitheatrically on a verdurous landscape of unique beauty. Famous from the past for the marble quarries and the purple shells, the village of Styra is an ideal resort for serene and peaceful vacations.

The town of Styra has always been the historical and administrative seat for the area sandwiched between south-central Evia and Karystos, located in the island's southern-most tip.

Town Hall is located in the building that previously housed the district's former local government entity, before a central government initiative a few years ago mandated larger and expanded municipalities throughout Greece by merging local governments in order to cut bureaucracy and provide more centralized services, the "Kapodistrias Plan".

The town of Styra is located on the western slope of Mount Kliosi , some four kilometres from the sea. Four communities are within the town's limits - Kagadaioi, Kapsala, Lefka, Niborio and Elafolimano, renamed from Porto Lafia. At a height of some 250 metres above sea level, the town's advantageous location lies directly on the route connecting central and southern Evia, as well as the mountains with the sea on an east-west axis.

The town of Styra retains all of the traditional Greek ambiance one expects to find "off the beaten path". Tavernas serving delicious locally produced dishes along with small cafes stocked with traditional sweets are found around the town's main square.
