The aim of the project One School One Monument conducted by the Association for Highlighting and Popularisation of Heritage and Heritage Education - Seizmo, is to introduce cultural heritage, monuments in particular, in the education of the young generations in Macedonia. In such a way, the project contributes towards highlighting of Macedonian heritage on national and international level. This project is a follow-up of the project "La scuola adotta un monumento", that started in 1992 in Naples, as an initiative of the "Napoli Novantanove" foundation. Later on, the project extended to Italy and to all European Union countries, with the support of the European Commission. "One School - One Monument" started as a pilot project in the city of Skopje and its surroundings, during the school year 1999/2000. Each of the nine schools participating in the project, adopted one monument, representative for the city of Skopje, where as one of the selected monuments has been adopted by the two shools. In total, one hundred and sixty five students aged from ten to eighteen worked on eight monuments during the whole school year. During the school year 2000/2001, the project has been extended to other cities in Macedonia, Bitola, Prilep, Kumanovo, . In May, June and September
2000, the students presented their monuments in front of
other students, their
parents and the citizens of Skopje, with music and theatre performances.
For example, the students from the high school Pance Arsovski
presented their monument the City Fortress of Skopje with the
theatre performance untitled Skopje, yesterday, today and
tomorrow . In September 2000, in the
Museum of Macedonia, an exhibition was opened as a part of the European
Heritage Days campaign, representing the artwork of the students
inspired by the artistic, historic, architectural and ambient facets of
the selected monuments from the city of Skopje and its surroundings. The
same exhibition had the chance to represent the Macedonian Cultural
Heritage in the Council of Europe in December 2000. Besides the work of the
students created through the school year, this exhibition presented the
work of the students who participated at the first European
Heritage Class on the Balkans, which took place in the monastery
Saint Joakim Osogovski in the Eastern Macedonia in June 2000. Besides
the students from Skopje, the class gathered students from Sofia,
Bulgaria, from Naples and Genoa, Italy, as well as students from
Angouleme, France. Team Leader |
