MOT was founded in 1976.

The admittance of the Republic of Macedonia into the Organisation of the United Nations (1993), and its membership in UNESCO, has meant also a beginning of the process of the integration of Macedonian culture (and particularly its theatre) into Europe and the world. MOT is a subscribing member of the Informal European Theatre Meeting - IETM (Brussels, Belgium). MOT is also a member of Mediterranean International Theatre Institute and founder of the Macedonian Centre of the International Theatre Institute - UNESCO.

At the beginning of the New Millennium, - as a support of the United Nations and UNESCO’s International Year for the Culture of Peace (and no Violence), - International Theatre Festival MOT celebrates its 25th jubilee. Therefore, our experience with the subject “The Theatre at the Crossroads - towards 2000” was a provocation to promote this year the subject THE POWER OF THEATRE.

MOT Festival has been taking place for twenty four years now and over 400 different theatrical performances have been staged from:
