The Studio Players was founded by Sahika Tekand and Esat Tekand as the performances branch of their Studio for Actors and Artists. The group performed their first play in 1990. They base their performances on research and various workshop activities.

The group starting point is the exploration and making use of 'the contemporary element' in performing arts, particularly acting.

In the 1995/1996 and 1996/1997 theatre seasons The Studio Players staged "Becoming a Rhinoceros", written and directed by Sahika Tekand. Sharing the same concept with E. Ionesco's "The Rhinoceros" , the play takes a questioning attitude to the performer's existence on the stage and the text itself. The production was seen a great "tour de force" and solidified the group's reputation as one of the foremost experimental theatre companies in Turkey. "Becoming a Rhinoceros" participated in the 8th International Theatre Festival in Istanbul.
