This is Mavrovo, a tourist area under the slopes of Mount Bistra, always appealing to admirers of nature and its beauties. This is a place where there is no dead tourist season. In the summer heat, the cool Mavrovo nights, the white herds and their mountainous pastures on Bistra, Korab, Sar Planina and Desat as well as blue Lake Mavrovo are a real place to rest and feast one's eyes. The whiteness of the snow covering the earth since November until late April offers a unique challenge to winter sport lovers. Zare Lazarevski Ski Centre in the village of Mavrovo is a leading one in our country which is attested by the high number of international and national ski competitions in all disciplines. Two synchronously connected one-seat and two-seat cable-car systems enable skiers to cruise along the endless white tracks of Bistra without any difficulty. Mavrovo National Reserve covers an area of 78,000 hectares and is one of the rarest in the world. Thanks to the favourable climate and geographical conditions all kinds of plant communities grow here along with 140 bird species and over 45 other species of vertebrates, mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians and many others luring domestic an international hunters and fishers. The Radika River and nearby streams are abundant in delicious Radika trout. Mavrovo offers perfect conditions for pleasant stay, recreation and entertainment. Thirty or so hotels and workers' resorts accompanied with 1,100 holiday homes are a solid ground for further development of tourism in this region. Mavrovi Anovi Municipality covers over 445 sqare kilometers in the heart of the most beautiful natural treasure in the West of Macedonia. It has 25 villages dated from more than five centuries ago whose appeal to those who want to see something very old and valuable, created by masters through centuries is ever more increasing day by day. The municipality boasts 22 churches and construction of two monasteries is under way. Each church captivates with its architecture and iconostasis, beautiful fresco paintings, icons and other church relics. The most famous and most often visited monastery is that of St. John Baptist Bigorski which was the pillar and the main enlightener of the population in the settlements around Lake Mavrovo, the Radika Valley and the Mijac area. The monastery was erected in 1020 with its iconostasis carving in walnut wood being a unique one in Europe. Another valuable religious monument, the Monastery of St. Panteleymon, is situated in the vicinity of the village of Nikiforovo, on the coast of Lake Mavrovo. During the latest archaeological excavations a valuable Christian basilica erected in the ninth century and some items dating from the fifth century were discovered there. Izgradenite dve `i~arnici, (ednosedot i dvosedot), kako i dvata sinhrono povrzani ski-liftovi, na skija~ite im ovozmo`uvaat bez problem da krstarat po nepreglednite beli pateki na Bistra. Nacionalniot park "Mavrovo" se protega na povr{ina od 78.000 hektari i e eden odretkite vo svetot. Blagodarenie na povolnite geografski i klimatski uslovi, tuka uspevaat site vidovi bilni zaednici, se sre}avaat i 140-vidovi ptici i nad 45 drugi rbetnici, cica~i, vleka~i, ribi, vodozemci i drugo {to e mamka za doma{nite i stranski lovci. Rekata Radika i okolnite reki, bogati se so poznatata vkusna radi~ka pastrmka. Na site gosti i turisti Mavrovo im nudi izvonredni uslovi za prijaten prestoj, rekreacija i zabava. Izgradenite triesetinata komercijalni hoteli i rabotni~ki odmorali{ta, kako i 1.100 vikend ku}i~ki se solidna osnova za ponatamo~niot razvoj na turizmot vo ovoj region. Op{tinata Mavrovi anovi se protega na povr{ina od 445 km i e vo sredi{teto na najubavite prirodni retkosti i bogatstva vo zapadniot del na Makedonija. Na ovoj prostor se nao|aat 25 selski naselbi sozdadeni pred pove}e od pet veka, i od den na den se pove}e se zgolemuva posetenosta na licata koi sakaat da vidat ne{to iskonsko, vredno, sozdavano od graditeli niz vekovi. Tuka vo ovaa op{tina postojat 22 crkovni hrama, a vo izgradba se i dva manastira.Sekoja crkva pleni so svojata arhitektura i ikonostas, so prekrasnite freski na yidovite, so ikonite i drugite crkovni relikti. Najpoznat i najposeten e Bigorskiot manastir "Sv.Jovan Krstitel" koj bil sto`er i glaven svetilnik na naselenieto od selskite naselbi okolu mavrovskoto ezero,okolu dolinata na Radika i Mija~ijata.manastirot bil osnovan vo 1020 godina, a rezbata na ikonostasot od oreovo drvo prestavuva unikatna vrednost od ovoj vid vo cela Evropa. Vo blizina na seloto Nikiforovo, na bregot na Mavrovskoto ezero se nao|a u{te eden kulturnoistoriski vreden crkovsn spomenik manastirot "Sveti Pantelejmon". Spored poslednite arheolo{ki istra`uvawa tuka e pronajdena vredna Hristijanska bazilika, izgradena vo devetiot vek od na{ata vera, a ima delovi koi datiraat duri i od pettiot vek.
