TOWARDS THE 20TH FESTIVAL AND GOOD-BYE TO THE 20TH CENTURY

I do not know how normal is a statement like this but the titles of
films of this year's program has imposed a consideration closely connected with this space
and time. This year, when for the 19th time the curtain shall rise and the film screen will be lowered in the Large Hall of the Bitola Culture Center, we may freely say Good ByE 20 Century and to start towards the Jubilee 20th International Film Camera Festival "Manaki Brothers". |
The Balkans, are at this moment Powder Keg and may be that is why numerous distinguished guests and film stars from the whole world as Geraldine Chaplin, or Liv Ullmann, or Bibi Andersson have most kindly thanked for the invitation to be present during the 19th International Film Camera Festival "Manaki Brothers" leaving the possibility for some other better times.
It is quite normal that we expect The Night will rise from these areas and it is in our mentality and Character to build in a greater dose of understanding and tolerance, for common life.
We are justified expecting The End of Violence, and buy the way we also have the right to hope that Shooting Stars, too. Private Confessions shall not save us, but we should simply turn towards the future and to extend hands one to the other. Let us see off the 20 centuries to the railway Central Station and let us forget all ugly things that happen there.
This year's JULORATORIO should announce the counting down of the last 365 days of the second millennium of Christianity. At the end a question is normally imposed: TO BE or HANA-BI.
I am sincerely happy that this year's laureate of the Award for Life Achievement "Golden Camera 300", one of the greatest living Directors of Photography, Sven Nykvist, is with us, and here with us is also his son Carl Gustav Nykvist. who shall receive the Award and to Sven we wish fast recovery.
And finally and the very end, life goes on, and the world of the young remains.
