Martin LANGER - GERMANY, Member
I was born in Hanover on January 8th, 1959 and grew up on the countryside. After school I decided to work for the state as a civil servant. But it didn't take long and the job bored me to death. So, I decided to change my profession and wanted to become that guy, who's behind the moving pictures of my favorite movies which I have always admired on the big screen. Interested in still photography, but not having the slightest idea, what a director of photography is doing, I moved to Munich, in those days the German capitol of filmmaking. I contacted people working in the filmbiz. Luckily I got a job.
I worked my way through as a propman, boomoperator, electrician, grip and second-first camera-assistant. One day my D.o.P., I was his focus-puller, was asked to shoot a low budget highschool film. He refused, but he recommended me to this student. . . The director and me became friends, the shortlenght film won some prizes (AAN, Academy Award Nomination: Best Student Film). Since 1990 I started to become a director of photography and we are still working together. For me a dream came true: working in a profession, which I really love.
As a D.O.P. Martin Langer has collaborated with director such are: Martin Enlen, Roland Suso Richter, Sigi Rothemund, Niko Karo, Caroline Link, Nico Hoffman, Detlev Buck, Rainer Kaufmann, Sherry Horman, Michael Verhoeven, Roman Kuhn, Tom Glaser, Wim Wenders (2nd camera).
