Regina ZIEGLER, a Lady who likes a challenge:

" The idea for EROTIC TALES I (consists 6 films, produced in 1994, two of them presented in the official selection in Cannes 1994) came to me one evening over dinner with a friend. We were wondering who were the Bunnuels or Billy Wilders of today? At which international festival could you see a film like BELLE DE JEUR or SOME LIKE IT HOT? Why not make an erotic tales series of feature films for the 1990’s? The first three American directors contact readily accepted the challenge: Bob RAFELSON, Susan SEIDELMAN and Melvin VAN PEEBLES. Soon thereafter Ken RUSSEL, Paul COX and Mani KAUL proposed to join the club. Each came from different background, cultures, life styles, which they drew...Each had something different to say. after scripts began flood my desk, I realised that many directors harboured a personal idea of what, essentially, is erotic in this day and age. It is a question of individual taste and the decision to make the films ultimately rests with what I think cinema or TV audience will respond to. The "erotic" is one of those terms that defies definition. Everyone has a personal notion of what is, or not, erotic. For most it is a question of fantasy, of imagination, of the stuff dreams are made of. Filmed examples serve better than words or description..."
