Notes about the producer:
Regina ZIEGLER
Born in Quedliburg on March 8, 1944, Regina Ziegler started her career
as TV Production assistant in 1964. In 1973 she founded her own independent
Company REGINA ZIEGLER FILMPRODUKTION. Her first venture was Wolf GREMM’s
debut film I HAD A FEELING I WAS DEAD. Since then, she has produced more
than 150 TV and Cinema productions. Her repertoire includes every genre-from
feature films by directors such as Andrzej WAJDA Krzysztof ZANUSSI and
Peter STEIN to documentaries and children’s series for TV. In 1991, the
AFI in Los Angeles honoured Regina ZIEGLER with a retrospective tribute
of 8 feature films and two documentaries. Among her many duties, Regina
ZIEGLER holds the deputy chair of the Federal Association of German TV
Producers.
The TV ratings for EROTIC TALES presented at prime time on ARD/First
German Television, following Report from Bonn newscasts on Friday nights
at 11 p.m., outdistanced all other programming on German TV. Viewers for
this three months series, January to March 1996, averaged a robust 2,35
million. Beginning at Cannes in 1994, the series of 12 short feature films
have also been successfully programmed at over 60 Film Festivals around
the world.
Regina ZIEGLER, a Lady who likes a challenge:
" The idea for EROTIC TALES I (consists 6 films, produced in 1994, two
of them presented in the official selection in Cannes 1994) came to me
one evening over dinner with a friend. We were wondering who were the Bunnuels
or Billy Wilders of today? At which international festival could you see
a film like BELLE DE JEUR or SOME LIKE IT HOT? Why not make an erotic tales
series of feature films for the 1990’s? The first three American directors
contact readily accepted the challenge: Bob RAFELSON, Susan SEIDELMAN and
Melvin VAN PEEBLES. Soon thereafter Ken RUSSEL, Paul COX and Mani KAUL
proposed to join the club. Each came from different background, cultures,
life styles, which they drew...Each had something different to say. after
scripts began flood my desk, I realised that many directors harboured a
personal idea of what, essentially, is erotic in this day and age. It is
a question of individual taste and the decision to make the films ultimately
rests with what I think cinema or TV audience will respond to. The "erotic"
is one of those terms that defies definition. Everyone has a personal notion
of what is, or not, erotic. For most it is a question of fantasy, of imagination,
of the stuff dreams are made of. Filmed examples serve better than words
or description..."
